Episode 5 Photos
September 27, 2008 at 12:43 am | In Uncategorized | 6 CommentsLet me just say, I really actually like this photo shoot. No hokey costumes, no ridiculous themes or premises, just simple, straightforward modeling and a final shot that looks like it could actually be used for an ad. Now, that having been said, let’s take a look at the photos. As always, in order of my favorite to least favorite.
FIERCE!

Clark somehow goes from boring, dead face last week to very fierce this week. I do think that she had one of the best hair/makeup combos, which drew attention towards the eyes, and did not distract from them. I’d be really interested to see what the rest of her film looked like, because in this one she really isn’t being very creative, and I’m curious as to whether all her shots were similar. Also, she seemed to have somewhat of an advantage here with editing, since hers was one of the only really close-ups, and the background color does really bring out her eye color. Coincidence?

I’m definitely not a fan of her dumb-blonde-ness, but this photo is fierce! I am loving how the colors work together, the animalistic stance, and the sharp look in her eye. Totally fab.

I can’t recall a single thing this girl has said or done since entering the house. She is living with the rest of them, isn’t she? She isn’t just showing up for photo shoots and panels? So either she gets the “no personality” card later on (a la Jenah c9), she has a rotten/boring personality that The Powers That Be Tyra don’t want us to see, or they’re saving all of her screen time for the second half of the cycle. Either way, I was impressed with this shot, I love the creativity with the arms, and I do actually see expression in her eyes.
NOT BAD!

McKey so far is winning my “most underrated contestant” award. She is fab, and I do like this photo. However, I’m also going to agree with the judges and say that I’d like it more if she had not had her arm in it like that. It does look awkward. The shape of her face, however, is quite divine.

Major props to Analeigh for actually using her body and being creative, unlike many of the girls. I do, however, think that her eyes could have been stronger in this one, since that was, after all, supposed to be the focus. Of course, I also think that she had a disadvantage with that hairdo, which to me seemed to draw the attention away from her eyes.
MEH.

Beautiful, but boring. She has lovely skin and lovely eyes, but is really doing nothing with them in this photo. The editing seems to be breaking her down rather early on in the cycle — are we in for another “losing your spark / edge / personality” elimination in the near future?

I know she was going for chic and high-fashioned, but it looks a bit too Quasimodo for my likings. The face itself, looks lovely, but the arms/shoulders are distracting and best, amputated at worst.

I can’t really think of anything specifically WRONG with this shot, but I’m just not drawn to it. I look right past it without caring, and I’m not really seeing much in the eyes. Yawn.

Why, oh why, can this girl do no wrong in Tyra’s eyes? I don’t get it. Her pose is awkward (not in a good way), her pose is slightly hoochie, and her eyes read quite blank. Plus, her voice drives me UP THE WALL. I need to find my remote so that I can mute her.
SCARY!

Call me crazy, but Isis’s photo reminded me of some possessed-looking china doll that you’d stick in the bottom of a drawer with its face down, under a pile of clothes just so you wouldn’t have to look at it. Yeah, it creeps me out that much. I’m not sure if its the asymmetry of the eyes, the strange arm growing out of the water, or the very unnatural shininess of her forehead and cheek, but just looking at this photo make me feel weirded out.
On a related note, was anyone else suspicious that they would have two bikini shots in a row, making the girls be progressively less clothed at each, during this particular cycle? Anyone else wonder how Isis could possibly NOT feel awkward/uncomfortable in that situation? Of course, then again, perhaps Isis should just be glad that they didn’t go for nude shots a la cycle 1 (click with caution), or guy/girl lingerie shots like cycle 1, or 4.

i’m definitely like the picture of Lauren Brie…
very awesome…
Samantha is marvelous and stunning too…but her poor runway landed her in the bottom two…
Go Lauren Brie…Go Samantha.,…

Yeah, I also think that Lauren Brie took the best pictures this week, followed by Adaleigh, Clark & McKey. I quite liked Marjorie’s shot and I wasn’t all the blown by Samanta’s job. Isis, Joslyn & Sheena did terrible to me and Elina was also disappointing. And I felt sorry for Hannah, at least she should have let to take the photo, probably this week she could have show up something, becuase eventhough her body languege was always poor, her eyes had something in her pictures (just look back if you don’t belive me!)…

I’m surprised at how symmetrical Lauren Brie was able to make her arms like that! It helped that her makeup made it seemed like she had a raised eyebrow. I have to agree though that Clark’s eyes were the best of the bunch otherwise.

I thought Marjorie’s picture was on the creepy side, and the theme was “fierce” so combined with the awkward limbs it did look a bit scary. I’d rather have it too much than too little. Analeigh lucked out that the legs led you to her face. But the makeup wasn’t exactly eye catching either.

I think Isis does look kinda like a doll. It might be the way the hair looks like plastic and the dots on her face makes her look sort of asian themed. I wouldn’t call it scary, but definitely not fierce enough.
-
Joslyn’s hair looks a bit messy. Must be because she can’t swim?

Overall,…I feel like the double elimination was sort of….sad…and anti climactic. I had a feeling Hannah was going home based on the little practice she had and poor photos she’s been putting out. I almost feel kind of bad since it seemed like it was aimed to just get her out. However, she didn’t have to endure that “bottom two ” pressure experience that almost EVERY contestant goes through. I dunno, I feel like she was robbed of that experienced. Some would say she’s lucky, but really….it’s part of the process and because she wasn’t in the bottom two but the bottom what 11? With the other girls?
And the thing is I DON”T REMEMBER HER! It’s like “who was eliminated?” “oh it was Isis,…oh wait…Hannah too.” I mean Hannah wasn’t one of my favorites, but it’s like, what a way to go. I think this is one of the first intentional double eliminations based on a challenge and not because someone wussed out of…I mean, quit… the competition. But I haven’t watched every season prior to this one so I don’t remember.
ok…i just wanted to get that off my chest

ANALEIGH: Currently my third-favorite contestant because of her genuine sweetness. I love her photo this week–it’s so unusual!–but I do wish there’d been just a little more intensity in the eyes.
CLARK: On some level I knew that this girl, who is my least favorite in the house, actually had some talent, and that she wasn’t one of the six filler girls (Analeigh, Brittany, Hannah, Nikeysha, Samantha, and Sharaun are/were filler). I do like her photo; I just wish it weren’t the product of her flirting with Nigel!
ELINA: My favorite contestant. While I do like her photo, poor Elina let me down this week. I hope she gets better.
HANNAH: GONE! Thank goodness. While I didn’t hate the girl, I disliked the way she did things. She often seemed to have good intentions, but the things she said and the way she talked and acted didn’t match.
ISIS: Damn. I liked her. But yeah, that shot is bad.
JOSLYN: Her first shot was O.K. Her second was quite good. Her third was so-so. This one is sub-par. I still like Joslyn (though not as much as I used to), but I agree that Tyra gives her more credit than she deserves.
LAUREN BRIE: What they’re doing to her is EXACTLY what they did to Jenah. I remember I didn’t really know who Jenah was until the top eight, and once I realized she existed, I didn’t really like her. It was only after I re-watched the entire cycle that I appreciated how cool she was. I’m hoping they give Lauren Brie more screen time in the weeks to come. Also, her photo was my favorite this week.
MARJORIE: A little too much arm, but great eyes. I hope she doesn’t get eliminated within the next few weeks because of her personality, or something like that. Stop being so diffident, girl!
MCKEY: Another girl with too little screen time. But I can tell she’s cool. As for her shot, I love it. Does it remind ANYONE of Elyse’s snake beauty shot from cycle one?
SAMANTHA: This girl is adorable. I just want to hug her (and Analeigh, too). Her shot is great, but that walk…oy. I see a lot of potential.
SHEENA: My second-favorite. I’m not the biggest fan of her shot, though. It’s lackluster. Pretty, but lackluster. And why the hell did the CW delete her portfolio?

lauren brie is my new fav, now that hannah is gone. I think her picture was best last week and is best this week, yet they didn’t call her first. whatever. what makes me mad is…clark? seriously? she should have gone home in that lame runway elimination. And… btw… didn’t hannah and marjorie’s dresses and walk remind you of Anya C10’s walk and dress, because they were so narrow at the bottom? not fair.
I loved isis and support her, but that photo was bad.
mckey is awesome.
marjorie should have been in the bottom two for that headless photo. it was terrible.
loved samantha’s.
what happened to elina? you don’t go from first to one away from bottom two!
sheena’s looks like the grudge to me. I also hate her makeover. I love sheena as a person though.
joslyn has to make it far, since she’s the only black girl left, but that photo… umm..
analeigh’s wasnt bad, but since the theme was fierce eyes, idk why she was all legs.
and what else isn’t fair is that isis and clark have super close ups, while the others dont, and that weird. like last weeks beauty shot/not photo shoot.
(this contains spoilers for the episode)
thank you so much christine, what you said was exactly how I feel. Hannah was my favorite, and I wanted to cry so bad when she left. i felt like they made the whol elimination thing up just to get rid of her. len90 you were right. although hannah’s first photo wasn’t very good, her second wasn’t bad at all, and I thought her third was phenominal, much better than isis or marjories!

Lauren Brie is the fierce i think…
The creativity is in high level for modeling..Hope she can go far…minimal go overseas…
She always improve in every single shoot.
Samantha is adorable too..Had the high fashion i think…
Sheena have the bubly personality like CariDee from cycle 7.
at the swimsuit shoot, i like the posed of Marjorie, but when i see again seems like Mollie Sue from Cycle 6. She always nervous…
McKey too flat..or maybe they save her for some surprise..while McKey took a stunning picture but in my opinion had the flat personality…can not create a drama…in fierce eyes photoshoot…too flat not like other…
Hannah….sleepy but potencial..but had the worst walk…but better than Lauren cycle 10.
Go Lauren brie, Samantha, Sheena and Elina….
